This hill station is established by British empire ‘s in 1854 in India as a summer retreat for its troops and officials. It is built on five hills Kathalagh, Potreyn,Terah, Bakrota and Bhangora.  Located on the western edge of theDhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas, it is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. The best time to visit is in the summer, and the peak tourist season is from May to September.

Dalhousie is a gateway to the ancient Chamba Hill State, now Chamba District of the state of Himachal Pradesh of India. This hill region is a repository of ancient Hindu culture, art, temples, and handicrafts preserved under the longest-running single dynasty since the mid-6th century. Chamba is the hub of this culture.

Different ways to reach in Dalhousie:

By Air: Dalhousie doesn’t have it’s own airport but cities close to this place have one. The closest domestic airport is in Pathankot which is 75 km from Dalhousie. There is another airport near Dalhousie is Gaggal airport in Kangra District which is 140 km. This airport is well connected to both domestic and international cities and from Gaggal airport you can hire a bus or taxi from kangra to Dalhousie.

By train : Train is the most convenient way to reach Dalhousie. Pathankot Railway Station is the nearest station from Dalhousie which is 75 km. Major Indian cities which includes Jammu,Delhi,Jaipur,Bathinda,Ahemdabad and Jodhpur are linked with many superfast, Deluxe and pessanger trains. After reaching at Pathankot station you can hire taxi which will take 2-3 hrs to reach Dalhousie. The second nearest station from Dalhousie is Delhi which is also well connected with major Indian cities.

By Bus : While traveling by bus the drive might be long but the roads leading to Dalhousie and around nearby towns like Pathankot and Chamba are in very good condition. Many buses like Deluxe, semi-sleeper, luxury and Volvo buses run from New Delhi which covers a distance of 590 km, from Jammu which covers a distance of 170 km, from Jalandhar which covers a distance of 190 km, from Amritsar which covers a distance of 200 km,

There are just over 600 hotels, which provide temporary jobs to about 5,000 to 8,000 individuals every year. This town alone counts for almost 110% of the GDP of the state.

Khajjiar: One of the famous tourist place in Dalhousie which is 23 km from Dalhousie. Khajjiar is also known as “Mini Switzerland” in India. The weather of Khajjiar is the main attraction for tourists in winter temperature hovers around freesing point with heavy Snow fall and in this season heavy woolen are required and in summer the climate is best to visit but light woolens are recommended in this season.

Panchpula : Panchpula is a small tourist attraction which is 3 km from Dalhousie having a small waterfall and few shops from where you can buy Souvenirs. There are small activities for children where they all will enjoy.

Chamba:  Distance between Dalhousie to Chamba is 41km. Chamba is the northwestern district of Himachal Pradesh, in India, with its headquarters in Chamba town.The tourist places like Dalhousie and Khajjiar  are popular hill stations and vacation spots for the tourists  from the plains of northern India. Here you will see museum and few temples on the top of hill like Laxmi Narayana Temple, Radha Krishna, Shiva Temple of Chandergupta and Gauri Shankar Temple.

Chamera Dam: Chamera Dam supports the hydroelectricity project in the region which takes place on the River Ravi. This Dam is located near Dalhousie and in the Chamba district in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. The reservoir of the dam is the Chamera Lake. The unique feature of this region is the fluctuating of temperature in day and night. During day time the temperature  near the dam rises up to 35 *c and in night temperature drops to a minimum of 18 to 20 *c.

Chamera Lake: Chamera Lake, is located in the Chamba district, which  is one of main attraction for every tourists love to visit in Dalhousie. This Lake is  Located at a distance of 25 km from Dalhousie. The Chamera is an artificial lake, surrounded by beautiful green trees and exquisite valleys.

The tourists can visit  Chamera Lake  throughout the year, but if you really want to enjoy the snow white surroundings of the lake, then do visit it in winter.

The lake has various facilities for water sports like river rafting, motor boating, canoeing, and kayaking. Other than the water sport activities, pedal boats and rowing boats are also available for the tourists.

Dainkund Peak: Dainkund Peak is a amazing  tourist place which is the supreme mount in Dalhousie. Here from this peak tourists can have the view of the entire valley. The noise  passing through the trees makes a musical sound, due to which this peak has also obtained the name, the singing hill. This peak is just located at a distance of 10 km from Dalhousie  and at an elevation of 2755 meters above the sea level. This  Peak is one of the most visited place in Dalhousie.
