  • This place is an ancient monuments in the Mehrauli area of Delhi. Qutub Minar is tallest brick minaret in the world. This place has been declared as a UNESCO Heritage Site.

  • Qutub Minar 73 meter high tower of victory, was built in 1193 by Qutab -ud -din Aibak after the defeat of Delhi’s Last Hindu kingdom .

 

  • This tower has 5 stories, each stories are being marked by balcony and tapers from the base which is at the diameter of 15 meter and 2.5 meter at the top. The first three stories are made with red sandstone and ffourth- fifth stories are made with marble and sandstone.

  • Inside this tower you will see a circular staircase with 379 steps lead to the top of the tower. Qutub Minar Station  is the nearest Station on the Delhi Metro.

  • At the foot of the tower, here you will see Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque which was the first Mosque to built in India. Qutub Minar has just tilt over 65 cm from vertical and is considered to be safe.

  • Qutub Minar is also surrounded by several historical monuments which are Iron Pillar of Delhi, Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, Alai Darwaza, the Tomb of Iltutmish, Alai Minar, Ala-ud-din’s Madrasa and Tomb, and the Tomb of Imam Zamin. These all monuments are connected with the tower and are part of Qutub complex.

  • In the year 1220 Qutub-ul-din Aibak son in law Iltumish who added further 3 more stories to the tower but, unfortunately in the year 1369 lightning stuck at the top story destroying it completely. After this Firoz Shah Tughlaq  who carried out with the restoration work replacing damaged stories with a tow new stories every year which are made with red sandstone and white marble.
