5 Interesting points before visiting Yamunotri temple:

  • Yamunotri temple is a must visit place in Uttarkashi District in Uttarakhand. This temple is situated in Garhwal division of Himalayas from where the distance to Uttarkashi is 30 km in North and from this temple River Yamuna originates and for Hindus this river considered to be as Holy river and is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna.
  • This temple has a black marble idol of the goddess who is worshipped . To reach at this temple you need to travel whole day from the main town of Uttarakhand Haridwar and Rishikesh.
  • To reach at this temple you need to trek 13 km from Hanuman Chatti town and 6 km from Janki Chatti. Trekking is only way accessible to reach at this temple and also there are horses available for rent.

  • Routes to reach at Yamunotri temple: There are two routes from hanuman Chatti to Yamunotri. One route is on the right of bank proceeds via the Markandeya Tirth and the other route is on the left bank of the river goes via Kharsali, and  from here time taken to reach  Yamunotri is a five or six hours.

  • This temple is dedicated to Goddess and was built in 18th century by Amar Singh Thapa. Here you will see two hot springs named as Surya Kund and Gauri Kund. The temperature of these two springs are too hot you can easily cooked rice. Here are the lodging facilities inside the temple premises like ashrams and guest houses.

Ways to reach Yumnotri temple:

By Air: This place doesn’t have a facility of airport but still you can reach here by reaching to the nearest  airport is Jolly Grant Airport is in Dehradun which is about 210 km from Yamunotri and from airport you can reach Hanuman Chatti with the help of Taxi’s which are easily available from the airport.

By Railway: This place also doesn’t have railway facility but you can still reach here by reaching to the railway station is at Rishikesh which is 200 km away from Yamunotri and from airport you can reach Hanuman Chatti with the help of Taxi’s which are easily available from the railway station.

By Road: This place doesn’t have direct connect to other cities in Uttarakhand but other cities connect Hanuman Chatti which is well developed. Many buses and taxi’s are available on these route by which you can easily reach Hanuman Chatti.

Here is information for you if you visit this temple via Barkot and Dehradun which is the most ideal route to  reach Yamunotri and in case you visit this temple via Haridwar- Rishikesh then there is a diversion of road from Dharasu to reach Yamunotri.
